Technology & Spiritual Practice:

Leveraging Social Media to Transform Faith-Based Communities

The average American now spends more than 32 hours a week online at home (more time spent  than watching TV) and a recent study reports that couples spend more time on the computer than with each other. Computer games, online social networks, and virtual worlds have come to replace face to face interactions for many. How can we balance the increasing use of the Internet and other modern information technologies like cell phones with our daily activities and spiritual practice? What among these new tools can actually enhance our family and social relationships, and create new opportunities for spiritual work?

The Technology & Spiritual Practice seminars are designed to address these questions through an examination of personal habits and technology options for spiritual communities. Three hour and a half interactive sessions explore the following themes:

1)      From Oral to Digital: How Communication Technologies are Transforming Faith Based Communities

2)      Technologies for Spiritual Practice: Tools & Approaches for Personal and Community Engagement

3)      Church 2.0: Re-inventing Your Faith Based Community for the 21st Century

The seminars will take an in depth look at current and future online communities, tools, and technology devices which can be leveraged for spiritual work. Participants will complete a personal & Church technology usage plan and leave the 3-part program with a roadmap for a balanced technology diet and a better understanding of how to make the mosRounded Rectangle: t of modern technologies for spiritual practice.
